Is better Bitcoin pure adoption or Bitcoin adoption with speculation?

In my view of the Bitcoin world the true use of Bitcoin involves having a wallet and directly holding sats without any third parties involved.

I think Bitcoin isn't for everyone; it's not true that anyone can use Bitcoin, some people are very difficoult with seedphrase and passphrase (they lost the facebook password, for example). Bitcoin adoption has potentially reached one of its peaks; the rest is linked to derivative systems that use Bitcoin. For example, buying Bitcoin with ETF, ETN or ETC is not adoption but speculation, and the same applies to the whole system linked to futures and perpetual contracts.

But what is better for the ecosystem? Bitcoin adoption at all costs or adoption with clever and smart people without third parts?

Well, I think Bitcoin is for everyone, but not everyone will be interested in it or believe that bitcoin is good. Due to Bitcoin is actually a very broad topic.

So maybe what you said is true, that Bitcoin is not for everyone, although Bitcoin is not a choice, as long as we accept it, we will have bitcoin if we are interested in having it. However, we supposed to know first why it is significant now in this generation?

I agree with you, and I think the distinction you're drawing is one of the most important in the whole space.

Pure adoption means someone holds Bitcoin in their own wallet, they understand what it is, and they've taken the step of self-custody. That's the real thing. Everything else — ETFs, futures, perpetual contracts, leveraged longs — is a derivative layered on top, and it changes the nature of what's happening. When someone buys an ETF share, they're not adopting Bitcoin. They're buying a claim on Bitcoin that's held by a custodian, traded on a stock exchange, and subject to all the usual counterparty risks. The Bitcoin underneath might sit in cold storage at Coinbase or BlackRock, but the person holding the ETF share has no more relationship with that Bitcoin than someone holding a gold futures contract has with a gold bar in a vault.

The speculation argument cuts both ways, though. Speculation isn't worthless — it provides liquidity, it drives price discovery, and it brings people into the ecosystem who might eventually graduate to self-custody. But the danger is that the speculative layer starts to feel like the real thing, and regulators, banks, and the average person start to think that an ETF share IS Bitcoin. That's how you end up with rehypothecation and the whole 2008 playbook happening again, just with a different asset class underneath.

The real question is which layer is doing the cultural work. If the ETFs and perpetuals are bringing in people who then go and download a wallet and buy their first sats directly, then the speculation is serving adoption. If they stay in the derivatives layer forever — trading 10x longs, getting liquidated, coming back for more — then it's just speculation with Bitcoin's ticker, and it's not adoption at all.

I think the health of the ecosystem is measured by how many people are running nodes, holding their own keys, and using Bitcoin for actual settlement. Everything else is noise that eventually has to be reconciled against that base layer. And honestly, the base layer is what makes the whole thing worth anything in the first place.

What do you think about the Lightning Network in this framework? It feels like a middle path — still self-custodial, still permissionless, but much more usable than on-chain for everyday payments.

This is the real problem, in this times is noise who running nodes, preserve his own keys and use bitcoin in total self custody. In this period with a huge quantity of attacks at self custody  provider and hardware we obtain a down in attraction of self custody with a plus for third party method. In this bank like Binance and Coinbase drink the best champagne.
